It is that time of year!

Safety Jobs 101
 
Admittedly, it is frustrating looking for work.
 
Keep applying for jobs, as well as submitting your resume to companies that
you’d like to work for, by internet, fax, snail mail or in person.  If there
is a contact with hiring authority that is better.
 
Keep active in national and local American Society of Safety Engineers
(ASSE) chapters and other organizations, and attend meetings, classes, etc.
I’ve gotten leads to jobs from people I¹ve met at workshops, etc.  Often
conferences will have a job bulletin board, and a place to put your resume.
Someone picked up one of my resumes at a conference, and that lead to a 1
year contract position.
 
I¹ve had numerous sort term and contract jobs over the years, when I get a
job, rather than removing myself from various job email lists, I forward the
job announcements, realizing that I¹ll need to sign up again eventually.
 
I forward many notices to the Safety List, which has general discussions of
occupational health and safety management issues, including OSHA issues,
jobs, power points, etc.

You can probably get more specific job notices by setting up your own more
specific requests for email notices from web sites that interest you.
 
Many larger companies have web services that allow you to sign up for job
email notices, specific to field, location, etc.  Try looking on their
websites.  For a list of companies start with the Fortune 500 Companies or
something similar.  Some of the websites also have lists of internships.

Another way to find jobs is to find the names of the companies in the area
you want to work and contact those companies.  Many will have websites where
one can submit resumes directly, often under a tab on the website labeled
careers, or jobs, or something similar.  Many job search accounts email you
jobs that match your requirements.
